Here are USNA Guidelines to Live By as written by former USNA Superintendent Admiral Charles R. Larson, also former commander in the Pacific–CINCPAC in Naval terms–from 1991 to 1994. He’s the type of guy who will be directing your child’s career and education at the Naval Academy:
- Uphold the standards of the Naval Academy.
- Be a person of integrity.
- Lead by example -(Meet the standard you are holding others to).
- Strive for excellence without arrogance.
- Do your best.
- Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
- Tolerate honest mistakes from people who are doing their best.
- Seek the truth -(Rumors and unverified anecdotes undermine morale).
- Speak well of others -(Gossip undermines human dignity).
- Keep a sense of humor and be able to laugh at yourself.
OUR GOAL: MAKE THE CHAIN OF COMMAND WORK BY ENHANCING MUTUAL TRUST, RESPECT AND GOOD TWO-WAY COMMUNICATIONS.
If you’re a Chuck Larson fan like I am, here’s an interview with him on YouTube:
Jacqui Murray is the editor of a technology curriculum for K-fifth grade and creator of two technology training books for middle school. She is the author of Building a Midshipman, the story of her daughter’s journey from high school to United States Naval Academy midshipman. She is webmaster for five blogs, an Amazon Vine Voice book reviewer, a columnist for Examiner.com, and a weekly contributor to Write Anything and Technology in Education. Currently, she’s working on a techno-thriller that should be ready this summer. Contact Jacqui at her writing office or her tech lab, Ask a Tech Teacher.

Thanks. Chuck Larson is even more magnetic in person than on paper.
